What is Holistic Wellness?

By: Eike Daube MSW,ACSW

Holistic is a word meaning whole/wholeness. Wellness a word opposite to illness, the state of being well or in good health. Holistic wellness defines a homeostasis between the mind, body, and spirit. Developing a pinnacle of health, a utopia of existence if you will.

There are 8 pillars to holistic wellness 1. Physical 2. Mental/Emotional 3. Social 4. Spiritual 5. Intellectual 6. Occupational 7. Financial 8. Environmental wellness. As previously stated Holistic wellness is the result of all these elements working together cohesivley in a way that makes you feel your absolute best.

The key is Individualistic wellness and understanding, when you know what works for you and you become in tune with yourself you will find your own utopia of being. Some people may believe that doing a juice cleanse for a week will help them reach a better wellness state. Some may believe that doing Pilates regularly and meeting with their therapist once a week will help them reach wellness.

Do not take the information provided on this site and think you need to shift every aspect of your being in order to feel good. Rather allow yourself to gain additional insight into the wellness field. With the information gathered allow yourself to dive into a reflective period and see if there is an area in which you could see some improvement. Another approach is to look at which focus caught your attention the most and maybe that’s where you should begin your wellness journey.

Remember, doing things because you believe it’s what you are supposed to do is never going to help you reach your goals. You must do things for yourself that you intuitively know feel right for you within your own body, mind, and spirit.

The MIND + BODY Initiative is going to dive into the science behind the human wellness movement this will include mental health diagnosis and symptoms, various interventions used to heal people (evidence based), nutrition, spiritual exploration, exercise, astrology, neurobiology, the connection between the mind and the body, and so much more.

The purpose of the MIND + BODY Initiative is to help you find what works for you. As a community we want to educate individuals on what is available to them within the health and wellness field. If you try things that you might never have heard of before, then we have met one of our goals.

Make sure to ask questions about the things that spark your interest. We want everyone who joins us to grow and be a part of a community of people who have one thing in common; the desire to become the best version of themselves.

WELCOME TO THE INITIATIVE, we are lucky to have you!
